Not in the SLO Area? You can still be part of our online athlete community. Whether you’re an elite runner or gearing up for your first 5k, smart coaching is crucial. Did you know that about half of recreational runners experience injuries annually? Many don't adjust their training when they get back to running, leading to further issues. Injuries can break your consistency, so take proactive measures to stay on the trails and away from the elliptical. Join us and make the most of your running journey.
Online Coaching
What’s the number one thing runners do that results in burnout and injury? They train way too hard. Lactate threshold tests allow you to discover your LT-1 and LT-2 training zones. Essentially, these zones let you train at the RIGHT effort. The mile world record holder, Jakob Ingebrigsten, had this to say about training:
“We think of training as if we are farmers, and what we are harvesting are carrots. Many athletes want to pull the carrot out of the ground early to see what they have made, but in reality, once you test it, you can never put it back in,"
With a lactate threshold test, you can figure out your training zones to help grow the best carrot.

The SLO Prep Impact
“As a high school athlete who does cross country, soccer and track, he has seriously been the best coach ever. During my soccer season, he helped juggle my track training and competing my best during soccer”
— Sidney Logsdon
“Joaquin is clearly someone who has trained/competed at the highest levels and is able to translate that knowledge to his runners as a coach. We set our goals for a Boston qualifier time and developed a schedule that would balance my work/social life with the demands of training.
I had not been running much before, so as I started to ramp up in mileage I developed several mini injuries. Joaquin was quick to respond. He provided alternative cross training sessions to maintain fitness as well as strength exercises to prevent the injuries from coming back in the future.
The workouts he provided all have a purpose in mind and kept me engaged with my training.
Come race day, we beat our original goal of a BQ time by 10 minutes!”
— Henry Tadeusiak
“He has consistently proven himself to be an incredible coach. Meeting his trainees where they are and steadily bringing them to the next level with just the right blend of positivity and accountability”
— Natalie Hedlund
“His running expertise has helped me improve run times, stay healthy, and really start to enjoy running. He’s also very knowledgeable in recovery and injury prevention - two huge pieces I was missing from my toolbox”
— Simon LaCapria
“I was previously a D1 athlete for cross country and track before working with Joaquin. Once I quit the team, I was not sure if I made the right decision, and trained on my own for a bit to prepare for a track meet. Going with Joaquin to prepare for it was definitely the move as he was more accommodating through injuries and sickness”
— Oscar Gomez
